Course & University Policies (A-Z)

Attendance

This course provides a blended learning format with synchronous sessions and asynchronous work.

Children

When we’re in-person: I understand that there may be situations where you may need to bring a child to class ...

When we’re on Zoom: I understand that your child/ren will likely be around...

Communication and Consultation

Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns based upon your reading of the assignments or class materials.  I can best serve you if you let me know before there is a crisis.  Please note the suggested protocols:

  • Check your email frequently. Email me at [email protected]
  • To contact me, please use email. I typically respond to emails Monday - Fridays within 24 hours. On weekends, I will respond to emails in the evenings or Monday morning if it's a busy weekend.

Department Announcements

Students can find department announcements and course schedules, when available, on Canvas: for PASC/MS/CASC, the organization page is called “Educational Leadership Tier 1, Tier II, MS Student.”  For the EdD students, the organization page is called “EdD Majors.”

Department Use of Student Work

The Department of School may use student work as a potential sample or example for other students, or as part of departmental norming process; all identifying information will be removed prior.

Late Work

Assignments are due on the date indicated. I do not deduct points for late work, but if it is significantly late you might forfeit receiving feedback for that assignment. I will always try my best to provide feedback, even when it is late, but sometimes I simply won't have the capacity.

Feedback and “Netiquette”

Both your peers and instructor spend valuable time providing feedback on your written work. Out of respect for one another and the instructor, please always address comments by making the necessary revisions. Please honor “netiquitte” while posting and responding to peers online: disagreement and debate is healthy, but please be kind. Remember we are all humans!

Grade Appeal and Academic Grievances

If you wish to appeal your course grade at the end of the semester or have other academic concerns related to a course, please visit the Grade Appeals section of the catalog, which explains the process.

Incomplete

An incomplete (I) may be given to a student who did not complete a small portion (30% or less) of the work due to circumstances beyond the student's control. The incomplete contract must be signed by the student and instructor. The work must be completed in the designated time period or the incomplete will revert to the grade that the student would have earned.

Photography (Classroom and Event)

From time to time, faculty may take photos of students during class or during a department event such as the Annual Fall Forum or Leadership Institute. Student photos may be used in department promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, websites, or social media. If you do not wish to be photographed and/or have your photo used in our department’s materials, please notify your instructor and please feel free to opt out of any photo-taking activity.

Plagiarism

Your written work is one of the most important opportunities for learning! Any plagiarism may lead to a grade of F, or in some circumstances removal from the academic program. I am here to support you in this area! Plagiarism may include, but is not limited to:

  • If you use a sentence (or even a part of a sentence) that someone else wrote and do not put it in double quotes and reference the source, you have committed plagiarism.
  • If you paraphrase somebody else’s theory or idea and don’t reference the source, you have committed plagiarism.
  • If you use a picture or table from a web page or book and don’t reference the source, you have committed plagiarism.
  • If your paper incorporates data someone else has collected and you don’t reference the source, you have committed plagiarism.
  • Submitting as one's own original work (however given or purchased) a research paper or assignment that has been prepared by another individual, you have committed plagiarism.

Dis/abled Students & Accessibility

I make every effort to ensure all course content is Accessible, however I am not perfect. If you find any materials to be inaccessible, or anticipate issues related to the format or requirements of this course, please feel free to contact me ASAP. I would like us to discuss ways to ensure your full participation in the course. Together we can plan how best to design the course and coordinate your accommodations.

I also recommend contacting Student Accessibility Services at [contact info].

Student Services

To access student services offered at this University, visit [University website Student Services page]

Technology Requirements

This is a hybrid course and requires a ****laptop with typing, Microsoft Excel, Zoom and Internet capabilities. Most synchronous classes will be held IN PERSON, but on weeks we are virtual, please make sure you are set up to Zoom somewhere with relatively consistent Internet and the ability to focus. All assignments must be submitted under the respective header in the “Assignments” tab of our Canvas site.

I recommend that you save all important documents in two places (e.g., on a laptop, iPad, or a personal computer AND on Dropbox, Box, Google Docs, or an external hard drive) to prevent loss. Exercise preventative technology use!
